Purpose: The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform users of our app of the following.
1. The personal data we collect;
2. The use of collected data;
3. Who has access to the data collected;
4. The rights of the app users; and
5. The app's cookie policy.
This privacy policy applies in addition to the terms and conditions of the app.
Consent:
By using the app users agree that they consent to:
1. The conditions set out in this privacy policy; and
2. The collection, use, and retention of the data listed in this privacy policy.
Personal Data That is Collected:
WeatherSpotter only collects data that is necessary to achieve the purposes that are outlines in the privacy policy. No additional data will be collected.
Data Collected in a Non-Automatic Way:
WeatherSpotter may collect the following when you perform certain functions on the app
- Pictures and Videos
- Location
- Phone Number
The data may be collected using the following methods
- Pictures and Videos can be submitted by users through a form (file upload for reports and forum posts)
- Location may be collected through 2 methods
1. Location may be collected using a geolocation function if users decide to allow their location to be used for a WeatherSpotter report;
2. Users that subscribe for SMS alerts will be asked to submit their approximate location through a registration form.
- Phone numbers are only collected from those that choose to subscribe for SMS alerts. Subscribers will submit their phone number through a registration form.
How Personal Data is Used:
Data that is collected on the app will only be used for the purposes that are outlined in this Privacy Policy or indicated on relevant pages on the app. Your data will not be used for purposes beyond what is disclosed in this Privacy Policy.
The data that is collected when the user performs certain functions may be used for the following purposes:
1. Communication, sending out SMS messages to the cell phone of a subscribed user that has a significant weather event reported within 200 km of their reference address.
2. Visual aides (Photos or Videos) that are attached to WeatherSpotter reports for the purpose of conveying information. Users may be able to download photos and videos that are published to WeatherSpotter.
3. Location information is used to obtain accurate map coordinates for WeatherSpotter reports. SMS subscribers will need to provide their approximate location for the purpose of determining if a subscriber is within 200 km of the location of a new WeatherSpotter report.
Third Parties:
Users may need to share data with the following third parties;
1. Payment Processing Websites
- Users that choose to subscribe for SMS alerts will need to enter their payment information into the payment processing website.
How Long Personal Data is Stored:
User data will be stored until the purpose the data was collected for has been achieved.
How Your Personal Data is Protected:
User account data such as usernames, passwords, and phone numbers are only accessible to the app administrator. Data that comes from user input such as photos, videos, and location information are completely deleted from the server once the information is no longer needed.
While reasonable precautions are taken to make sure that user data is secure and users are protected. WeatherSpotter is unable to guarantee the safety of all user data beyond what is reasonably practical.
Children:
WeatherSpotter is intended for an audience that is 13+. If a child that is under 13 has provided us with personal data their parent or guardian may contact our privacy officer.
How to Access, Modify, Delete, or Challenge the Data Collected:
If you would like to know if we have collected your personal data, how we have used your personal data, if we have disclosed your personal data and to who we have disclosed your personal data, or if you would like the data to be deleted or modified in any way please contact our privacy officer here:

Do Not Track Notice:
Do Not Track (DNT) is a privacy preference that you can set in certain web browsers. WeatherSpotter does not track the users of the app over time and across third party websites and therefore does not respond to browser initiated DNT signals. WeatherSpotter is not responsible for and cannot guarantee how any third parties that interact with the app and your data will respond to DNT signals.
Cookie Policy:
A cookie is a small file, stored on a user's hard drive by a website. Its purpose is to collect data relating to the user's browsing habits. You can choose to be notified each time a cookie is transmitted. You can also choose to disable cookies entirely in your internet browser.
WeatherSpotter uses the following types of cookies,

- Functional cookies are used to remember the selections made on the app so that your selections are saved for your next visits; and
2. Analytical Cookies
- Analytical cookies collect data on how you access the app, for example data on the content you access and how long you stay on the app, etc.
